Voscillation (2014)

The short film 'Voscillation' explores the concepts of communication and silencing through the independent movement of a violin. The whispered and largely incomprehensible tones of the human voice are heard against the static backdrop of a fiddle, turning in slow motion, as if by its own will. The violin cannot produce sound on its own in order 'to speak', yet it can move by the physical construction and weightedness of its form. This characteristic shape inspires an almost voyeuristic eroticism as the play between shadow and light on the violin's casing gradually shifts, revealing further attempts to resist inertia and maintain its kinetic gesture towards animation.
